Severe Rains Exacerbate Circumstances for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, Agencies Caution
Persistent precipitation over the recent period have worsened the precarious circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the Gaza Strip, according to humanitarian organizations.
"Horrendous" Conditions Brings Severe Dangers
A official described the weather overnight as "awful", with rain so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"The recent weather was really terrible for the families. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the gales were so powerful," said the representative.
Authorities voice significant worry that children living in makeshift shelters in wet garments will fall victim to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Deaths and Significant Loss
The health ministry have stated that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins due to the storms.
Additional accounts indicate a increased fatality count. Authorities reported that numerous structures had fully given way and dozens had been partly destroyed.
- Almost 55,000 families harmed by rains.
- More than 40 emergency shelters inundated.
- Many people required to relocate again.
Aid Efforts Considered Inadequate
Organizations have increased deliveries of tents, warm covers and clothes following the ceasefire started, but they emphasize there is still not enough aid entering.
"Officials are working relentlessly to bring in that relief and to allocate it, but the size of the needs is so vast that we continue to see many thousands of families and minors who are really enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one representative.
Ongoing Concerns and Truce Plans
The next stage of the agreement encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the pullback of personnel, and other conditions.
Humanitarian organizations have underscored the necessity for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to respond to pressing and long-term needs."
The conflict was sparked by an assault in the autumn of 2023. Following military operations have caused a high number of fatalities in the area, based on medical figures.
