Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year after starting insulting songs targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His lengthy time with Leeds concluded amicably in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the former England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous Conflict Involving Bamford and Wilder
Both men had history before Leeds moved up back to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
