Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
